1. I've been lax about commenting the last five days or so, but bear with me - I'll get there. It's been a ridiculously busy week so far.

And I'm forgetful on top of it.

( It's the world's longest car, I swear. It reaches from Beale Street to Washington Square. And once you get in it To go where you're going, You simply get out, 'cause you're there. )

12. OK, I think I'm out of stuff to say for the moment. I think the majority of this needs to go behind a cut, because HELLO, RUN-ON-AT-THE-MOUTH DISEASE. Or I suppose that'd be fingers, since I'm typing, yes? *snerk* Either way...I used Shel Silverstein's poem "Longmobile" as the cut text, in case anyone was wondering.

If you're like me, you are baffled and irritated by the asinine cost of spiced chai in the supermarket. I found - and fiddled with - a recipe to make my OWN instant chai, and want to share! Recipe under the cut, along with my own notes and tips.

1. Feeling better today - definitely a good thing. :)

2. Dinner tonight at Bunny and John's, and kiddo will probably sleep over, so quiet evening! YAY!

3. Dad is out of the hospital. He was released yesterday shortly after noon. The docs have concluded that the chest pains were NOT his heart, thankfully. However, they don't know what DID cause the pains, so we're at a loss, there. Dad has a regular doc appt coming up soon, if not today (because I'm really bad with time, OK?), and hopefully he'll find out what he needs to do to be able to continue walking, as that's the more imminent threat right now.

4. My friend I mentioned earlier now has an LJ! I'm so pleased, I can't wait to show her the ropes. She may yet come to DW, too, but I'm STOOPID and messed up the web address. *rolls eyes at self* Either way, I'm glad she has an outlet available to her! Next step: teaching her how to navigate a forum. XD.

5. You guys, these shoes have HEART-SHAPED HEELS!! ♥♥♥

6. Just renewed a bunch of books from the library online - handy little tool. Finally finished The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho) the other night. It was such a wonderful book; I'll need to procure my own copy of it. If you've read it, I'd like to chat with you about it.

Sparkly Text!!

All right, so I have a thing for sparklies when it comes to pictures and text, and as the Sparkle Generator has been mournfully dead for a few months, I've been at a loss for how to show my glee over certain gleeful things.

Then yesterday, I found a post somewhere in my LJ friends page that - GASP - HAD SPARKLY TEXT IN IT!!!

OMFG SO HAPPY!!!!

I asked the poster where they found it, and was directed to a lovely directory on simcatsubame's journal, and copious amounts of squeeing later, I am thinking of reproducing it here on my own DW.

Part of it is to share the love, yes, but also to have it easily available to myself here on DW.

My question for the lot of you, flist, is whether I should just keep it to myself for now and do a private, my-eyes-only entry, or if any of you would be inclined to make use of such a gorgeous bounty of info.

Thoughts?

Giant, non-fandom friending meme...

Christ in a sidecar, I cannot think straight for the life of me. I nearly typed "non-friending fandom meme" in the subject line. *rolls eyes at self*

So... liv did that giant, non-fandom friending meme, and I want to make new friends, as I seem to go through them rather more often than most people, but it's always a little daunting, diving in and hoping you hit it off.

But I gave in yesterday and posted to it. I have some new subscribers, so I wanted to say hello and welcome to you!

You'll find me mostly quiet until I get to know you better, and by quiet I mean a bit slow to comment or participate; I'm very much an observer, and even once I get to know you, I can be quiet. But I am generally cheerful - I'm one of those annoyingly-cheerful-upon-waking people, for the most part, though I try not to shove it in the faces of those who, well, aren't.

Anything you want to know about me or don't understand, please, please feel free to ask. I don't mind sharing or explaining things at all, and my life can be a little confusing sometimes, especially when you're not me...and sometimes when you are. ;)

4. We were in Target and I found a Harry Potter Clue game!!

Yes, of course I bought it!

It's a bit more involved than the good, old-fashioned Clue game, but it's still the same basic move-accuse-deduce setup.

5. You guys, I got my own fishee!!

Look at him and tell me he's not gorgeous:

Had to turn the flash off to get that glory-of-the-sun-in-blue color to show nicely:

But the flash brings out that stunning aqua-green beneath!

6. And Fishee totally needs a name. I can't keep calling him "Fishee." Any suggestions?I'm thinking along the lines of something Thai or Cambodian; betta fish are native to the rice paddies of these places. I've got several ideas, most of them Thai. Chanarong, which means experienced warrior. Kasem, well being; happiness. Klahan, courageous. Niran, everlasting; eternal. Sunan, which has no meaning. Virote, great; power. Atid, sun. Of those, Chanarong would be closest in description - they're Siamese fighting fish, after all. But I don't really like that name. I couldn't find a Thai name that means "glorious," because MAN, look at that coloring! I want to sink into the brilliance of it.

I found a Vietnamese name, Thanh, meaning bright, clear blue; elegant - do they have rice paddies in Vietnam, do you suppose? It's the same region as Thailand and Cambodia, after all...

And a Cambodian name, Samnang, which means good fortune, which of course has nothing whatsoever to do with fish or fighting or gloriously brilliant, sink-into-me blue.

According to an online translator I found, "glorious" in Thai is: รุ่งโรจน์ , which of course doesn't tell me anything about how you say it. *rolls eyes*

I think I'm leaning mostly toward the Vietnamese name, Thanh, pronounced TAN-yih, because the meaning is closest to what I think of when I look at him. But I also like the Cambodian Samnang, because I could call him Sam for short and I love that.

Decisions, decisions... Thoughts, anyone? Please?

7. We saw bunnies there. I want a bunny so horrifyingly badly, but I can't have them; I'm allergic to them in rotten, unlivable ways. I'm allergic to nearly all the pets we could easily afford and handle, which sucks for Mike because it means he can't have any of them. *shakes fist at the allergy deity*

So suffice it to say I babble at Fishee like it's a bunny or kitty or puppy I can pet and snuggle and love. Yeah, I'm a geek, I know it. *hehe*

8. I keep making these long posts - is that irritating to anybody? Would it be better if I used cuts more often? I wonder, sometimes, if people don't like to see really long entries cluttering up their "friends" pages. Thoughts?

9. I brushed my hair this morning. It hurt. Note to self: next time you bring a brush along on vacation, USE IT.

EDIT: 12. I forgot to tell you! That two-hour power outage last night? Completely fried our already-gasping router. *rolls eyes* But we picked up a new one today for less than half what we planned to spend on it, so that rocks. Yay for unexpected sales and finding the last one in stock!

7. Still have two Dreamwidth invite codes up for grabs. Comment and let me know if you want one, even just to try it out. I think what I like best about DW right now is that it's not blocked here at work, and I was able to import all my entries from LJ. AND, I can cross-post to my LJ from here (which is how I'm doing this right now). I'll have to check my LJ when I get home and make sure it looks the way it's supposed to, but that's all right.

8. Leftover gyros for lunch today...mmmmm, lamb and rice and pita and hummus.

9. If you watch "Jaws" backwards, it's just a movie about a shark that keeps throwing people up until they have to open a beach. ~~What?! It struck my funny bone.~~ *hehe*
