psyche29: A brown eye with rainbow eyeliner all around it (glow)
Wow, it's been a while. Which, of course, I say every time I post, and it doesn't encourage me to post more often. *rolls eyes at self*

Nothing too much is new; work is as beastly and deplorable as ever, so I'm viewing and applying for other positions every week.

Hubby and Boychild are both in good health and happy. Boychild is trying wrestling this winter at school - we don't have the slightest idea why, but hey, it's exercise. He'll do tennis again in the spring.

My parents and sister were approved to move into our apartment complex, and they actually got to have the one right across the hall from us. This is a really awesome thing, and so we've been busy helping them move in bit by bit each weekend lately. We both leave our doors unlocked during the day, which enables us to just go back and forth between the two apartments. They don't have a microwave yet, so they come over to use ours; if someone's in one bathroom, we can go across the hall to use the other one. It's just really nice, too, having them right there.

We've also been going to the Y when we can. Not often lately, but things have calmed a little, so we're going to try a few visits this week. We all love the pool, though we're going to try more with the weights, too.

Finally got a new library card (my wallet was stolen a couple years ago and I just never replaced the card), so we've been in and out of the library again. Have a few books on hold, but can't pick them up till tomorrow. Hubby's getting both The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection From the Living Dead and World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War (Max Brooks), and I'm getting Dreams From My Father (Barack Obama), What's So Amazing About Grace (Philip Yancey) and His Majesty's Dragon (Naomi Novik). I hear so many good things about the Temeraire series, I decided it was high time I looked it up and tried it. Thoughts?

I should really update my reading list here, but will wait on that one - formatting takes too long and I am too lazy at the moment.

In the meantime, I've been reading lots of Narnia fic, specifically [livejournal.com profile] rthstewart's work on both AO3 and ff.net - it is fantastic stuff and so worth the time it's taken to get through it all. The world-building is phenomenal and the writing exceptional.

I don't think I've anything else to report. How is everyone?

Feels like a while since I posted, even though it was only last Friday...

There's shoe porn under the cut somewhere. )

7. Huh. I thought I had more things to say, but I'll be damned if I can remember what they are. Guess y'all are off the hook for now. XD.

1. Day six of the seven-day meme!

For one week, recommend/share:
Day 1: a song
Day 2: a picture
Day 3: a book/ebook/fanfic
Day 4: a site
Day 5: a youtube clip
Day 6: a quote
Day 7: whatever tickles your fancy

Day Six )

2. In other news - got a new-to-us dresser today. Eight drawers, dovetailed and made of solid maple. It was my grandmother's - my aunt needed to get rid of it, and we were in need of one, so she brought it over. There's also a matching headboard and footboard that we'll probably take because we're going to get Mikey a new bed eventually. Sweet.

3. A friend I've been on the prowl for for several years now turned up yesterday! She finally signed up on Facebook, and sent me an add request. And then - praise the Lord - she was home last night AND had MSN Messenger. We chatted for four hours! I've missed her a lot, and it was awesome to finally get hold of her again.

4. The Twins JUST lost the game. WTF is it with my hometown team? Every damn year, they seem to get into the playoffs and then choke. FUCK. *sighs*

7. Still have two Dreamwidth invite codes up for grabs. Comment and let me know if you want one, even just to try it out. I think what I like best about DW right now is that it's not blocked here at work, and I was able to import all my entries from LJ. AND, I can cross-post to my LJ from here (which is how I'm doing this right now). I'll have to check my LJ when I get home and make sure it looks the way it's supposed to, but that's all right.

8. Leftover gyros for lunch today...mmmmm, lamb and rice and pita and hummus.

9. If you watch "Jaws" backwards, it's just a movie about a shark that keeps throwing people up until they have to open a beach. What?! It struck my funny bone. *hehe*

Been a while since I updated...

1. We are mostly done moving. There are just a few things left to get from the house, and we are good to go. Thank GOD.

2. Work is...work. The LEAN team is up again this week, doing more cleaning that they really have no business doing. Seriously, shouldn't people who don't KNOW anything about my job ASK me before they decide to move everything around? *rolls eyes* They're also making everyone clean their desk tomorrow and everything has to be labeled in folders in time for "inspection." Christ on a pogo stick, when did I enter the military? Seriously, these people have NO idea. [/bitching.]

3. On a happy work note, I got to move to the big corner desk today. More room for all my work, and no one can sneak up on me anymore. I LOVE it.

4. Mikey's last day of school is this Thursday. He is so happy. Amanda's dying his hair green tonight, then tomorrow night his grandfather is cutting it so that Amanda can give him either a mohawk or liberty spikes for Thursday. *hehe*

5. Mike also had five teeth pulled at the dentist on May 26th. The roots on these babies are UNBELIEVABLE. No wonder he'd only lost three in all ten of his years - they're STRONG suckers! Anyway, netted himself a cool $5.00 from the Tooth Fairy. ;)

6. Had pizza last Friday evening with Beth, Dana and the girls. Was a nice night; good food, better company.

7. Speaking of Beth, she gave me an invite code for Dreamwidth not too long ago. I like it, and will eventually get myself a paid account. Paid accounts get 75 userpics, which is cool. Here's a "free vs. paid" acct chart thingy: Comparison. And I have two of my own invite codes to give out - let me know if you'd like one. First come, first serve.

8. I'm enjoying beta reading for now. I just recently finished beta reading four different pieces for people, and have more set up, although all three of those are for the same person, and spread out nicely in terms of due dates. One of which I need to get to, like, yesterday. Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] zagury...I'll get it to you tomorrow night, cross my heart. :)

9. Bought - and finished - The Sorceress a week and a half ago. Loved it; can't believe I have to wait for the next. Again. Updated my reading list.

10. I haz pictures. )

I think that's all I've got, for now. XD

1. OK. So we're mostly moved in. We got all the big stuff done on Friday, and we're officially living here, now. There's just boxes of stuff left at the house that we'll bring over throughout the week. Pictures...uh, eventually...

2. It's hubby's 30th birthday today. I made him breakfast (crescent rolls filled with cream cheese and bacon) and a cake (devil's food with cherries in the middle and chocolate cool whip for frosting). Yummy.

3. Happy Easter to all of you; I hope it was lovely for you. We had dinner at my aunt's...ham, rice, corn, super-delicious fruit salad - it was all so good. And Mikey loved his Easter basket. It was full of candy, so of course he did. *hehe*

4. No LJ notifications going out? I know it's happening to Sarah - anybody else? Argh. EDIT: Never mind, spoke too soon. There were two notifications in my email when I just checked it a minute ago. *rolls eyes* Go figure. *rolls them again*

5. Beth and Dana and the girls came over for half an hour or so on Saturday to see the apartment. It was really nice to see them. Elaina even painted us a picture; I put it on our fridge, it's so cute. And Evie - the first thing she did was crawl to our recycle bin and tip it over. *snerk* Too, too cute. And Beth helped me unpack my box of pots and pans - which ended up being less stuff than I thought it was. *gigglesnort* I can't wait to have them over for a game night, or even to grill outside with them. Weather's getting nicer, after all. XD.

On another topic - very funny, Mother Nature:

I suppose when you're as old as Mother Nature, the days all kind of blend into one another...but I wasn't impressed when I woke up to this today. *rolls eyes*
psyche29: The teeth of the Monster Book of Monsters, text "Good Books Don't Bite" (good books don't bite)
1. Saw Monsters VS Aliens today. Not a bad movie at all. I'd probably even see it again. And I LOVE that Real D 3D stuff - nowhere near as hard to watch as the old 3D stuff.

2. Picked up Graceling today, which is on my list of stuff to read. And, of course, found something else to read that ISN'T on my list, so I have to add it. How is it that this list keeps getting bigger and bigger?

3. Also, how is it that I have more books on my list than I can reasonably see being able to actually read within a year, yet my child abhors the very thought of reading a book? He thinks they're boring!! Seriously, WTF, mate? I can't even...I mean, HOW??!!

4. Since I'm on the topic of books...I want a Kindle. It's my dream gift. You guys, it holds books. Entire books. Lots of them. At once. I could carry my entire library everywhere. ... Of course, it would never replace the feeling of pages in your hand, that lovely new book smell (or even that OLD book smell!) - but for the purposes of travel and for people like me who have to go to work every day? Incredible. It even has a basic web browser (simple pages, text) and unrestricted access to Wikipedia - you know, my source for just about every-damn-thing.

5. Heard today, Amanda was approved, so she'll officially be living with us. XD.

6. Matt got a G1 phone today. *sigh* He's fully aware that if he starts mooning over another new phone anytime within the next year, maybe even two years, I am going to rip off his arm and beat him to death with it. I suppose I should thank the God of tech geeks that his phone number didn't change, yeah? *rolls eyes*

7. That is all.
psyche29: Tea in a white cup and saucer, sitting on a pink placemat (tea)
1. WOW, I've missed rather a lot. Work keeps me swamped, unfortunately. I miss you all.

2. On the work front - I am still unbelievably bogged down with stuff to do, but the last few days have made it seem like there might be a light at the end of the tunnel. You know that time early in the morning when no one is awake and you're unsure whether the world is still turning because all you can see, all you can hear is the nothingness of silence and sleep? And then just there, far off in the distance, you realize there's this faint glow spreading along the horizon, the one that isn't really rays of light and can't even accurately be described as light. But there's that faintest ghost of a shimmer, and you know the sun will be absolutely glorious this morning - that's the kind of feeling I've had the last couple days. And I'm a little lighter for it.

3. My youngest sister, Amanda, has decided she'd rather live with us than with her best friend's parents. So on Saturday, we took her to the apartment place to apply, since she's over 18. And they were having an open house, so she (we, actually) didn't have to pay an application fee, which was extremely nice. And if she's approved - which shouldn't be a problem - she'll be entered into a drawing to win a $500 visa gift card and another to win an iPod.

4. We've decided mostly that we're going to let her and Mikey have the bigger bedroom, which isn't too big a sacrifice because both the rooms just seem huge to us. But this way, they'll be able to have two twin beds instead of bunk beds, which is good because Mikey HATES climbing up into that thing, and Amanda sure won't climb up every night. And I can't really blame either of them for it - I was never a top-bunk kind of girl.

5. We'll be moving bits and pieces here and there beginning next Wednesday, when we get the keys, but the big exodus will be mostly over Easter weekend. I have that Friday off and more people seem to be available for then. Anyone nearby who is willing to help is more than welcome.

6. Apparently, I am turning 31 on Sunday. Surely that can't be right...where does the time go?

7. I have made no progress on my list of books, except to add a few to it. *rolls eyes* I can't wait for all my various days off, I am going to lock myself away for a while and just read. Voraciously.

8. I've been wanting to write lately, too, but there's that time commodity problem, like with the reading list. I just try to sneak in whatever I can, but I'm suffering withdrawal symptoms.

9. Speaking of writing...ANGEL. Should I have gotten anything from you yet besides the outline you originally sent? I haven't seen anything, and I'm not sure if you just haven't sent it or if I didn't get it. Let me know. :)

10. Day off tomorrow today. *sighs and grins, relaxing into pillows*

11. Song meme swiped from [livejournal.com profile] coonassblondie. List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your Journal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to. You know me, I rarely tag. Do it if you wanna. XD.

My seven, in no particular order:
1. Little Wonders - Rob Thomas
2. In Time - Robbie Robb
3. Love Like This - Natasha Bedingfield ft. Sean Kingston
4. Gotta Be Somebody - Nickelback
5. The Rainbow Connection - Dixie Chicks
6. Hot N Cold - Katy Perry
7. I'm Yours - Jason Mraz
