I just don't get it - how many people here don't say "goodbye" or something similar at the end of a phone call?

Two of my coworkers say "thank you," or just hang up after their - or my - last sentence. I have never had anyone do that to me before. Is this common?

Uh, no, not in the south anyway. It's considered very rude. My mama always taught me not to hang up on anyone.
