Having such a lovely time, really pleased so far. Here, have a few pictures.

Nine hours in the sunshine and the pool brings out those freckles like whoa.

My niece is made of sweet potatoes, and my God, I could not get enough of her. Neither could Hubby - open-mouth baby kisses are just the best, no?

Here they are again:

Of course, this is what "not sleeping" looks like when Boychild does it. You know, every time.

And we stopped in DC yesterday and thrilled Boychild with a trip up to the Washington Monument. He was dying to take a picture, and he got several, including this one.

Vacation is going well, and we're looking forward to visits with my grandfather and great aunt today. I LOVE vacation.

*frowns*

All right, we'll try this again. Note to self: Copy entire post before hitting the "post" button, just in case the entries page eats the damn thing again.

FLIST! It's been a while! I've been coming and reading entries, and keep telling myself I'm going to post "as soon as I have some time," but that never seems to happen. *rolls eyes at self*

Cut for length. )

I am sure there a million and one more things I could put here, but am drawing a blank. I find myself doing that more and more often...which is kind of sad, considering that two weeks from today, I will only be 34.

If you want an update on anything I haven't rambled about in this post already, please don't hesitate to ask! I want to get back into the habit of posting again, so hopefully it won't be so long a wait. ;)

EDIT: Dreamwidth People: Does anybody know why, when I move the mouse out of the entry box on the create entries beta page, the text in the box leaps upward? I don't mean the words switch places or anything, but the whole text body itself scrolls up each time I move the mouse out of the box, and never just stays where I left the damn cursor. I can even stop typing, move the mouse out, then back in and back out a couple times without typing at all, and it will keep scrolling up a bit with each movement in and out. I'll check the bug list thingy later, of course, but thought I'd pose the question here, just in case anyone has a quick, easy answer. ....I wonder if it does this from home. I'll have to check; at work I'm forced to use IE8, but use firefox at home.
psyche29: A brown eye with rainbow eyeliner all around it (rainbow eyes)
I am flailing a bit at the thought of typing up All The Words. I haven't posted in ages, it seems - indeed, I am not even certain when my last post WAS. Summer. Probably.

Shall we see if I can sumarize?

1. Boychild started seventh grade and turned 13. Same curriculum, but new school, new approach to classes (he's got eight different ones and has to move between them, whereas in previous years it's been one teacher and mostly the same classroom). There has been much struggling, both for him and for us, and tears on both sides to prove it. Things are smoothing out some now, but it's going to be a work in progress.

A little grainy, as I saved it from hubby's FB with my phone, sorry... )

2. Work is...better. I am still swamped, both overloaded and manager-admitted-underpaid, but-. Changes - big ones - are in the works. I just got my yearly review today, and it was actually really, really good. I was given more info than my other coworkers are being given because the manager is expecting bigger things from me. As a result, I feel very secure in my position, and am aware that doors will be opened in various ways soon, and all I have to do is step through them. I can be open minded, and he is aware that he'll need to give me details in some areas. I'm not feeling the need to seek employment elsewhere, so as far as I'm concerned, things are looking so much better than they were a year ago, even six months ago.

3. Dad had gastric bypass at the beginning of September. He's lost 70 pounds so far, has already lost several clothing sizes, is back into a belt he hasn't been able to use for five years, and is *this far* from being considered "no longer diabetic." This is a HUGE deal, and means that the surgery was really the right thing for him.

4. Sister number three (child number four of the five of us) went through extensive psychiatric testing over the last several months, and the results are in - she will never be able to hold down any kind of meaningful work, or be a functioning member or society. She will probably always live with my parents. While the diagnosis vexes me (I do not pretend to understand how depression or mental illness work), at least now she can apply for disability benefits and possibly bring in *something* to help with my parents' expenses.

5. Sister number two (child three) had her baby girl at the end of August. Eja Alessandra was born 25 August at 12:30 AM EST, 5 pounds, 10.2 ounces and 19 inches long. She was healthy at birth and mom came through it better than her first one. A day later, some kind of enzyme or something stopped working or started working or (Jesus, can we tell I'm not even remotely clued in to illness-related stuff?!) whatever, and baby had a partially collapsed lung, among other things. It was touch and go for a couple days, and then my sister and her hubby moved the baby to a children's hospital, where she immediately began improving. God bless children's hospitals, as well as their incredible staff!! Eja is happy and healthy now, and getting bigger each day.

A few pictures of my pretty niece! )

6. Try not to pass out with this news: I am going to the doctor today. Not for most of the things I should also probably be seen for, but-. Last month, my right elbow started hurting. It only took a day or two for it to shift and spread down the outer part of my forearm and into my outer wrist and the ring and pinky fingers.

It's affecting my work speed; it hurts to add more than a couple pages of figures. Typing too long hurts. Sometimes writing - the act of holding the pen itself - hurts. And lots of other things are affected, too: I can't really open my own soda bottles anymore, or lift a pot of pasta to drain it, etc. I get out of having to help carry in the groceries, but that's not exactly a trade-off I can fully enjoy, as it hurts to do a host of other things I never actually realized used those particular areas.

I had to wait to be seen, unfortunately, but the day is here, so we'll see what's what, hopefully. Everything I've read points me away from carpal tunnel and mostly in the direction of tennis elbow, but again - we'll see what's what.

On the TMI scale... )

7. We had our week at the lake in August, which was lovely, and we just had a long weekend up in Duluth, which for the first time ever was GORGEOUS, weather-wise. I would LOVE to live up there. I never, ever get tired of it, even in the rain and gloom and snow. There weren't many leaves left on the trees, but the ones that were there were that stunning autumn red.

8. I've been writing quite a bit, working on my next-gen HP piece I started years ago. I'm revamping quite a bit and writing new scenes, too, and enjoying every second of it. Speaking of HP, one of these days I should post another of my one-shots.

9. Um. I think that's everything? If you'd like me to expand on anything, please let me know! I am reading entries, but haven't commented in ages; I will work on that, but am making no promises as we head into the ever-busy holiday season. Please know that I read you all and am thinking about you. ♥
psyche29: A brown eye with rainbow eyeliner all around it (earth laughs in flowers)
Hubby put a new OS on my phone, so I thought maybe I'd try posting photos a little more often to keep it a little more organized.

The last week, in pictures. )

In other news, it's the weekend! Very happy about this. Tomorrow, it will be exactly 4 weeks till we leave for the lake. Looking SO forward to it; I can already feel myself winding down. Better warn my boss. *hee*
psyche29: A brown eye with rainbow eyeliner all around it (source of our power)
1. I have an interview in the Contact Center tomorrow. Please send good vibes and/or thoughts, say prayers, make small sacrifices, do a little dance, whatever - I need to get out of here, and I need to do it about eight months ago.

2. Seriously, I am so done with this woman. I keep bitching about it, but my brain is absolutely breaking. I want to go curl up in a corner and just cry.

3. I've just been forced to move to a very small desk - there is no room here, and there's still a few things to bring over here, including a printer. I'm already saying my four favorite words. Fuckers - why does no one believe me till it's too late? I am always right about these things.

4. I've spent the last two days with my headset on and earbuds jammed in my ears so I don't have to listen to her grating, poorly-communicated voice. HAAAAAAAATTTTTEEEEEEEE......

5. We go out of town on Thursday, and don't come back till Sunday. I can't wait - I love going up north and just getting away from everything.
psyche29: A brown eye with rainbow eyeliner all around it (glow)
1. Been a while; work and life have kept me fairly exhausted.

2. I applied yesterday for the Contact Center job. We will have to wait and see what happens there.

3. I keep seeing the words "Yuletide" and "nominations." Internets, I am not brilliant enough this week (month?) to figure out what this means. Is it a contest? A gifting fic thing for the holidays? SOMEONE HELP ME UNDERSTAND, PLEASE.

4. I have next Thursday and Friday off and we're going out of town. Can't wait to get out of here.

5. I'm groggy and anti-work this morning, so I picked up my little container of bubbles and blew some. They're pretty, but one of them popped right back down on the wand and now I taste soap. Ick.
psyche29: A brown eye with rainbow eyeliner all around it (where the heart is)
Hello, everybody! *settles back in happily* I am back from vacation, and while I could easily - easily - handle another few months of that, it's awesome to be back at home, in my own bed, on my own loveseat.

And of course, I missed being connected. It's astonishing how much being connected means to me, but I don't mind it.

I come bearing some pics! )

Other stuff. )

And last but not least for today, my dad now has a journal of his own.

WE LEAVE ON VACATION IN TEN HOURS!!! *bounces*

Everything is packed and in the trunk except for the few shower things we need in the morning and my bag/purse and the few groceries we're bringing from home. And the big fan.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!
psyche29: A brown eye with rainbow eyeliner all around it (rainbow eyes)
Yowser, it's been a busy few weeks. It never seems like it, though, till I get down to the wire (aka Three Days Till We Leave For The Lake). This is when it seems like there are a million and eighteen things to do.

So, like any self-respecting journaler, I am putting it off for a little longer in order to recap here. Duh.

1. OK, first things first: [personal profile] kate is having a birthday today!

Happy Birthday, Kate!!

And I KNOW I've missed a couple birthdays since, what, May? Beginning of June? And of course, they drop off the little reminder thing on the home page after they pass, so I don't even remember who all I missed. In which case:

Happy Belated Birthday to Everyone I've Missed!!

I hope all of you had (or are having, in [personal profile] kate's case) a fabulous day!

2. A coworker had a birthday yesterday, and I completely failed to say anything to her. So I'm making her a little picture for her cube with highlighters and markers and stickers I keep on hand for the kids. Never let it be said that I'm not creative when it counts! *hee*

3. My gums don't hurt as much today, which is good, but my cheek is still swollen quite a bit. I'll give the amoxicillin time to work, but if it still hurts after the scrip runs out, I'm going to have to ask about it.

4. I've realized that I clench my teeth on the right side when I sleep. I don't grind them, but I clench them, and it's really irritating - I don't know how to stop. And how weird is it that I only do it on one side and not both?

5. Bought a pill cutter yesterday. The row of them were labeled as $4.13 each, but it rang up as $1.30. That's what I call awesome.

6. Been making my grocery list for our week at the lake. Already informed people they should have cash for me up front for shopping, and everyone's cool with it, so yay!

7. It'll be so nice to get up there for a week and just relax.
psyche29: A brown eye with rainbow eyeliner all around it (where the heart is)
We went out of town for the weekend, up north to Duluth. Got a great deal on a good hotel and got the hell out of dodge for a couple days.

Back home now; I have pictures.

Cut since I'm feeling nice. )
psyche29: Tea in a white cup and saucer, sitting on a pink placemat (tea)
1. Mom's got a pre-op physical this afternoon, and is scheduled for outpatient surgery on Tuesday. They'll remove the lymph node, and do a biopsy on it afterwards. I guess the CAT scan was inconclusive enough to make the doc just want to remove the node altogether, and go from there. I'm not too worried; I think it's better to just get it out and see what's what.

2. WE LEAVE IN AN HOUR! Image and video hosting by TinyPic

We're going to Duluth for the weekend, up to Island View Resort, where we've stayed a few times before. We really like the place, and we've been wanting to do it in the winter, so off we go for the weekend. I can hardly stand it, I'm so excited to get out of town for a couple days. We'll be in cabin 6, which looks great. *is excited*

3. We'll even be back in time for the football game on Sunday evening. I was telling Matt this morning that I don't care if they win or lose - I mean, obviously, winning is nice, but as long as they show up and play the game the way I know they are capable of doing, I'll be happy. All the same, GO VIKINGS!!

4. A vacation is what you take when you can no longer take what you've been taking. EARL WILSON.

5. Have a good weekend, everybody!!
psyche29: The teeth of the Monster Book of Monsters, text "Good Books Don't Bite" (good books don't bite)
1. We went to the library on Saturday morning. I re-checked out The Stillest Day (Josephine Hart) since it was on the shelf, and also found Fire (Kristin Cashore) and The Magician's Guild (Trudi Canavan). I finished Fire before I went to sleep that night - it was VERY good.

Updated Reading List )

2. Had a lazy weekend, did a lot of reading. Went to Bunny and John's yesterday for split pea soup and grilled cheese sandwiches; watched the football game (YEAH, VIKES!!!) and got a fabulous box cut RIGHT ALONG THE CUTICLE on my left thumb. Bled like a stuck pig, straight through the first bandaid and well into a second. It's fine now, but MAN, did it hurt at the time.

3. Mom's CAT scan on Friday went fine, she gets the results today, so I'll have to call her later and find out what's up, since no one ever bothers to call me and tell me of their own volition. *rolls eyes*

4. Going up to Duluth for a little get-away next weekend. Cabin's all booked and I can't wait. Even if all we do is hunker down for the weekend inside the cabin, it will nice to get out of town for a couple days. I leave work early on Friday, and we come back Sunday afternoon - in time to watch the game!

5. GO VIKINGS!! I actually don't really know who will win - my team is excellent, but the Saints are AWESOME. It's going to be a tough game. I think we could win, but I have no delusions whatsoever regarding the Vikes' capability of bombing it. Either way, we'll tune in.

6. Go away, monthly annoyance. You're not wanted in this body.
psyche29: A brown eye with rainbow eyeliner all around it (care so little)
1. The sick. I haz it. And I am not happy about it.

2. We went out of town over the weekend. It was a perfect fall weekend and we really had a nice, relaxing time. Except for the I-got-the-sick part, but that's OK - it was still good.

3. The super-late-but-I-hope-you-still-love-me day seven of the seven-day meme!

For one week, recommend/share:
Day 1: a song
Day 2: a picture
Day 3: a book/ebook/fanfic

Day 5: a youtube clip
Day 6: a quote
Day 7: whatever tickles your fancy

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

6. And Fishee totally needs a name. I can't keep calling him "Fishee." Any suggestions?I'm thinking along the lines of something Thai or Cambodian; betta fish are native to the rice paddies of these places. I've got several ideas, most of them Thai. Chanarong, which means experienced warrior. Kasem, well being; happiness. Klahan, courageous. Niran, everlasting; eternal. Sunan, which has no meaning. Virote, great; power. Atid, sun. Of those, Chanarong would be closest in description - they're Siamese fighting fish, after all. But I don't really like that name. I couldn't find a Thai name that means "glorious," because MAN, look at that coloring! I want to sink into the brilliance of it.

I found a Vietnamese name, Thanh, meaning bright, clear blue; elegant - do they have rice paddies in Vietnam, do you suppose? It's the same region as Thailand and Cambodia, after all...

And a Cambodian name, Samnang, which means good fortune, which of course has nothing whatsoever to do with fish or fighting or gloriously brilliant, sink-into-me blue.

According to an online translator I found, "glorious" in Thai is: รุ่งโรจน์ , which of course doesn't tell me anything about how you say it. *rolls eyes*

I think I'm leaning mostly toward the Vietnamese name, Thanh, pronounced TAN-yih, because the meaning is closest to what I think of when I look at him. But I also like the Cambodian Samnang, because I could call him Sam for short and I love that.

Decisions, decisions... Thoughts, anyone? Please?

7. We saw bunnies there. I want a bunny so horrifyingly badly, but I can't have them; I'm allergic to them in rotten, unlivable ways. I'm allergic to nearly all the pets we could easily afford and handle, which sucks for Mike because it means he can't have any of them. *shakes fist at the allergy deity*

So suffice it to say I babble at Fishee like it's a bunny or kitty or puppy I can pet and snuggle and love. Yeah, I'm a geek, I know it. *hehe*

8. I keep making these long posts - is that irritating to anybody? Would it be better if I used cuts more often? I wonder, sometimes, if people don't like to see really long entries cluttering up their "friends" pages. Thoughts?

9. I brushed my hair this morning. It hurt. Note to self: next time you bring a brush along on vacation, USE IT.

10. A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it. GEORGE MOORE.

11. Hmm, it's apparently ten after three, which means it's not even Sunday anymore, it's Monday. I think I'll head to bed; have a good week, all!!

EDIT: 12. I forgot to tell you! That two-hour power outage last night? Completely fried our already-gasping router. *rolls eyes* But we picked up a new one today for less than half what we planned to spend on it, so that rocks. Yay for unexpected sales and finding the last one in stock!

1. We leave for our week at the lake in less than TWO DAYS. *bounces* We are so totally looking forward to this vacation; we've needed it for rather a while, now. I have now spent an entire day in bed. Like, still in my pajamas which consist of a tank top and underwear.

I haven't done that for pleasure in I don't know how long, but it's been so relaxing.

I think I'll have to at least go outside or something tomorrow, though - my butt can't take much more. *LOL*
psyche29: A brown eye with rainbow eyeliner all around it (unless I'm wrong)
Someone at work decided he wanted to update our cover sheet we send out with faxes. Which is fine, I don't mind that a bit. I do that kind of crap all the time. I'm good at it.

It was sent as an attachment by this person, who indicated in his email to all of us that it was approved by both our manager and our director. Which it was, of course, but even that fact is a woeful commentary on the literary genius - or lack, thereof - of the people for and with whom I work.

Why, you ask? Because this was the disclaimer on the bottom (edited to leave out the hospital name, since this is an unlocked journal):

Go ahead and shudder...I did. )

Yes, I know hardly anybody reads the legal disclaimer stuff. That doesn't, however, mean we should send it out as it is, right? Someone back me up here - we're not idiots, why should we advertise that we are? And even if no one reads it, I would still know it's wrong. And I don't like being wrong.

So I sent an email back, but only to the person who sent it out to begin with, because if it was he who made it, then I don't want to embarrass him, right? Something about ethics, and treating others the way you want to be treated, blah, blah, blah... ANYWAY, I sent one back, and while it's totally know-it-all and stuff, it still addresses the problem, right? I had the nicest person on the floor read it for me to make sure it wasn't too mean:

The email I sent back )

She said it wasn't mean and if she was receiving it, she wouldn't be offended at all - but she knows me and is well aware that I wouldn't be sending it to be mean. I guess I'm worried on two levels - one for the implied idiocy if we all send it out as it is, and another for the guy who went to the trouble to update it.

Sometimes I wish I could put up a huge sign that says something to the effect of, "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, ASK ME - OR ANYBODY - TO PROOFREAD OFFICIAL COMMUNICATIONS BEFORE YOU SEND THEM OUTSIDE THE INSTITUTION!" [/rant]

ANYWAY.

I have a week of vacation coming up - this Friday all the way through the eleventh. I am definitely looking forward to some time away from the job.

Not too much else is new. Amanda has a job in the shoe department at Wal*Mart. She hates it, but it's a job for now.

Mikey's attending a YMCA day camp this week; yesterday was his first day and he was gone before his head hit the pillow last night. Definitely a good thing, in my book. XD.

I watched "Holes" on my iPod today while keying, and now I have that little tune stuck in my head.

"If only, if only," the woodpecker sighs,
"The bark on the tree was as soft as the skies."
While the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely,
he cries to the moon, "If only, if only."

It's a gorgeous little tune, but I've been singing it all afternoon. And I forgot the cord today, so I can't recharge the iPod and listen to something else till I get home. *sulks*

Oh, and Matt called; he said it's over ninety degrees out right now. Add in the dew point at somewhere above seventy and we have a hot, disgustingly sticky day on our hands, folks. The chewy substance masquerading as air will be stifling in the oven masquerading as my bedroom...in one of the few houses left with no air conditioning. *sigh*
