1. The sick. I haz it. And I am not happy about it.
2. We went out of town over the weekend. It was a perfect fall weekend and we really had a nice, relaxing time. Except for the I-got-the-sick part, but that's OK - it was still good.
3. The super-late-but-I-hope-you-still-love-me day seven of the seven-day meme!
For one week, recommend/share:

Day 7: whatever tickles your fancy:
Not much tickles my fancy right now. The sick kills the fancy sometimes. So how about my own Tater Tot Hotdish recipe? If you like tater tots and cheese, you'll love it.
Ingredients:
1 ½ pounds ground beef
1 can cream of mushroom soup
8 ounces sour cream
1 small bag frozen vegetables
shredded cheese, any kind
1 bag tater tots
Directions:
Preheat the oven to whatever temp the tater tot bag says. In a 9 x 13 baking pan, line the bottom with a single layer of tater tots. You’ll probably have some left over, so either line another smaller pan with what’s left, or just put it away for another time. Set the pan aside. Sometimes I use a big-ass roaster pan - it all fits in there just great. ;)
To make it easier on cleanup, use one big pot for this instead of a frying pan and mixing bowl. Brown the ground beef and drain. Add in the soup, the sour cream and the frozen veggies (I prefer peas and carrots, but any mix of veggies is fine). Then the shredded cheese – a big handful will do just fine, but if you prefer less or more, put it in to your own tastes. Mix well.
Now dump the whole thing on top of the tater tots. Spread it out evenly – pack it down a little if you have to. Slide it into the oven and set the timer for five to ten minutes longer than the bag says to cook the tater tots.
Five minutes before you take it out of the oven, sprinkle some shredded cheese over the top and let it finish baking. Take it out, give it a minute or five to cool, and serve.
CAUTION: This is deceptively filling – don’t bother with a side dish, you’ll never finish everything. ENJOY!!

4. OK, I've got about a quarter of the book left. My thoughts are kind of jumbled, so be sure to ask questions of me, because I may leave stuff out.
NED!! And Jory and the rest! I HATE the Lannisters! Hate them! *is shrieking* I don't know what you see, Beth, because all I see are lying, manipulative, power-hungry, war-mongering, incestuous ASSHOLES.
Except for Tyrion. I still like him.
Lysa Arron is PSYCHO. WTF?!
Littlefinger - I don't really like him, but I don't have much of a choice right now - he's the only one who's SORT OF helping Ned.
Varys and Illyrio - what do they want? Brothers? Relations? Do they want Dany and the Dothraki to take over the Seven Kingdoms? WTF is their role? I don't like them, but I don't know what they're up to!
Dany! Pregnant, and mostly happy! I like her husband, he treats her so well. And Viserys - please tell me that molten gold killed him and didn't just disfigure him...the end of that chapter wasn't exactly clear on the subject.
Also, does Dany want to rule the Seven Kingdoms? Or is she just wanting to go back there to live? I'm unclear on her motives, or whether she even has any beyond being happy.
Robert - I wondered if he'd die soon. Looks like he just might. Idiot.
I still love Jon - I totally understood his dismay at being pulled in for stewardship, but Sam made a great point. Does something bad happen to Ser Alliser? Because that man is an asshole and needs to be taught a lesson. Fucker.
Sansa - what a right little bitch. I wanna slap her silly. Elaina can't be too like her after all - Elaina loves her sister.
Arya - poor baby. I just wanna scoop her up and cuddle her before sending her to Syrio for more lessons.
Ned as Lord Protector And Whatever The Hell Else Robert Dictated - Yes, and no. I totally feel Ned's worry and fear and weariness. He'd be great at it, but he so doesn't need it or want it. He's a good man, a very good man, and makes me want to be a Stark.
And yes, he wrote "my heir" instead of "Joffrey the blond little spawn ofSatan Cersei and Jamie," but I think he did the right thing. I would have, too.
CERSEI. OMG, GTFO. For real. GO. AWAY.
And I hope someone kills Jamie.
And did those men get Gregor Cledane's head? Because THAT monster is outrageous. I don't know if I have enough words in my vocabulary for how badly I hate him.
Will Ned's leg heal? What's up with Theon Greyjoy? Why take such a ridiculous shot? Lucky Bran made it out alive, and Robb, too. Were those "Others?" Or "Wildlings?" Or people who deserted the Black brothers? And I thought the "wights" in the beginning WERE the "Others." What are the Others? Is this Mance Raydar guy/thing a real person, or what?
Basic questions...
So...summer can last for several YEARS? Then winter for several years? How far spread IS this Seven Kingdoms place, anyway? Summer in Winterfell is really mild winter? Like, all the time? And what about winter? Does that mean that in those very southern places, winter is super-mild? I'm confused about this season thing.
And where Dany is, with the Dothraki...don't they have the same issues? Wouldn't they be suffering from the beginnings of winter? Are they in the north of whatever land-off-the-map they're in, like I'm picturing, or in the warmer southern parts? Help!
5. Bedtime soon for the sick girl. Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Date: 2009-10-20 06:29 pm (UTC)Welllll, that's all your supposed to see for now :p I don't like all the Lannisters, but after my second read through I started to appreciate them better.
Lysa Arron is PSYCHO. WTF?!
OMG! HAHAHAHAHA!!! SHE IS SUCH A FUCKING CRAZY BITCH!!!OMG!
But more importantly YOU MET THE BLACKFISH!!! So much love <33333333333
Varys and Illyrio - what do they want? Brothers? Relations? Do they want Dany and the Dothraki to take over the Seven Kingdoms? WTF is their role? I don't like them, but I don't know what they're up to!
I.can't.say.anything. You have to just finish this book and then we can throw out some ideas together. Honestly after all four books there still isn't a very absolute clear picture about what is going on here.
And Viserys - please tell me that molten gold killed him and didn't just disfigure him...the end of that chapter wasn't exactly clear on the subject.
Yes Viserys is soooo dead.
Also, does Dany want to rule the Seven Kingdoms? Or is she just wanting to go back there to live? I'm unclear on her motives, or whether she even has any beyond being happy.
By the end of the book her motives are a lot more clear.
Sansa - what a right little bitch. I wanna slap her silly. Elaina can't be too like her after all - Elaina loves her sister.
Yeah I hope my girls don't turn out to have the same relationship as Sansa/Ayra, but Elaina is still very courteous and dreamy.
Arya - poor baby. I just wanna scoop her up and cuddle her before sending her to Syrio for more lessons.
I just love how Ned doesn't try to change her, but instead encourages her strengths.
And yes, he wrote "my heir" instead of "Joffrey the blond little spawn of Satan Cersei and Jamie," but I think he did the right thing. I would have, too.
I hate Joffery sfm.
CERSEI. OMG, GTFO. For real. GO. AWAY.
LOLOLOLOLOL!!!
And I hope someone kills Jamie.
OMG!NOOOOOOOO! *clings*
And did those men get Gregor Cledane's head? Because THAT monster is outrageous. I don't know if I have enough words in my vocabulary for how badly I hate him.
This will get answered in the next book. Gregor is a monster, the biggest one in the series, imo. So many other people are shades of gray, but he is downright one-sided. He is a dangerous psycho. You caught what his role is in bringing down the Targaryen regime right?
What's up with Theon Greyjoy? Why take such a ridiculous shot? Lucky Bran made it out alive, and Robb, too. Were those "Others?" Or "Wildlings?"
Oh Theon he took it to save Bran's life. Robb kind of overreacted, imo. The Wildlings are known as the "Free Folk" they live beyond the Wall. They aren't Others, but they roam freely and don't pay homage to either king or liege lord. You will see more of them later...
Is this Mance Raydar guy/thing a real person, or what?
Yes, you will meet him later. He is known as the "King beyond the Wall" the Wildlings follow him, but they still consider themselves as "Free Folk"
So...summer can last for several YEARS? Then winter for several years?
Yes seasons last for years at a time :)
I had to split my comment up, lol!
Date: 2009-10-20 06:30 pm (UTC)I'm not really sure on the absolute distance. I always gage it by North America, but that is probably because it is familiar to me. Meaning that the Wall would be somewhere in Canada and Dorne would be like Mexico...Winterfell would be somewhere close to where we are in the TC.
And where Dany is, with the Dothraki...don't they have the same issues? Wouldn't they be suffering from the beginnings of winter? Are they in the north of whatever land-off-the-map they're in, like I'm picturing, or in the warmer southern parts? Help!
Dany is not in Westeros with everyone else. She and her brother had to flee there when their father's regime collapsed. They roamed around in all the free cities (countries around Westeros) when you first met her she was in Pentos and is now traveling around with the Dothraki. In one of your next two books you will get a better map of her area. :)
Keep your questions and reactions coming! I LOVE THIS!
