No, letting them vent isn't my job. But I let them do it because I know it's better for them to get it off their chests, and it doesn't hurt me any to listen to it. For real - what's the point of wandering around all day, bottling everything up? If venting at me helps them to deal, then all the better for everyone.
It's extremely amusing for me sometimes, because people who hate each other are completely civil and almost nice to each other when both talking to me. *rolls eyes and snickers*
For one person, I'm the only thing keeping him tethered. He'd have been SO gone a long time ago if there wasn't someone sane for him to confide in, someone who understands exactly what's got him pissed. If venting to me helps him come back down, then I'm thrilled because I need him, too - he's the only one who really understands MY work frustrations.
And thanks for the support - things will be fine, it's just that some days are all rage and no pockets of calm. ;)
