* Nothing too new lately. Mikey has been in fourth grade for a week now. His teacher is very nice and very Greek. She was born and raised in Greece, and still has a pretty thick accent - it's very cool.

Mikey hasn't gotten his name on the board or been in trouble at all so far...we'll see how long that lasts.

He's also turning ten this coming Thursday, and is thrilled beyond speech capability because we're letting him have a "swimming party." Meaning we let him invite five other kids and we take them to the Civic Center for pool and water-slide play, then feed them cake and ice cream and send them home. *hehe* Should be interesting, especially since he's inviting the girl we tease him about all the time, Desiree...and she's interested in going. Too, too cute. XD.

* Since I have to return it in a day or two, I want to get some of these quotes from Atonement down while it's still in my possession, at least until I can check it out again...or get my own copy:

This: A world could be made in five pages, and one that was more pleasing than a model farm. The childhood of a spoiled prince could be framed within half a page, a moonlit dash through sleepy villages was one rhythmically emphatic sentence, falling in love could be achieved in a single word - a glance. The pages of a recently finished story seemed to vibrate in her hand with all the life they contained.

And this: The cost of oblivious daydreaming was always this moment of return, the realignment of what had been before and now seemed a little worse. Her reveries, once rich in plausible details, had become a passing silliness before the hard mass of the actual. It was difficult to come back.

This, too: It looked carved, fixed, and again, she felt it: it had happened a long time ago, and all outcomes, on all scales - from the tiniest to the most colossal - were already in place. Whatever happened in the future, however superficially strange or shocking, would also have an unsurprising, familiar quality, inviting her to say, but only to herself, Oh yes, of course. That. I should have known.

* Huh. I thought I had something else to say, but I guess not. Oh well, I suppose I'll just post it later if it comes to me. ;)

EDIT: I know what I wanted to say! I took advantage of the "paid account sale," and now have my very own paid account. I've changed my layout, but I'll be on the lookout for something else, as this isn't quite what I wanted. Any suggestions would be lovely - I just prefer darker colors like this. :D

* And last but not least, a meme:

1. There are 30 questions.
2. Next to each number, write only the name of the person who fits.
3. Answer one question with one name.
4. Don't tell the questions to anyone who isn't doing the meme.

You'll find a lot of repetition in here, since I haven't many friends on my f-list - and several left blank, because no one quite fits...

1. [livejournal.com profile] mugglesrock18
2. [livejournal.com profile] fredchikk
3. Maybe only for a day, but ultimately, nahhh...
4. [livejournal.com profile] herminia
5. [livejournal.com profile] mugglesrock18
6. And the first one goes blank...
7. [livejournal.com profile] loveweasleys04
8. [livejournal.com profile] kazzy24, [livejournal.com profile] herminia (Right, like I could pick just one.)
9. [livejournal.com profile] kazzy24, [livejournal.com profile] herminia (See reason above.)
10. [livejournal.com profile] herminia, [livejournal.com profile] wandaxmaximoff, [livejournal.com profile] loveweasleys04
11. Mmm, can't decide.
12. All of you. Each and every one.
13. [livejournal.com profile] mugglesrock18 - just from the sheer volume of responses you get to posts! XD.
14. [livejournal.com profile] herminia
15. Uh, what? Who made this up, anyway?
16. [livejournal.com profile] katyscarlett76
17. ??
18. Again, ??
19. [livejournal.com profile] kriz29, [livejournal.com profile] herminia, [livejournal.com profile] wandaxmaximoff
20. Man, I'm leaving more of these empty than I'd like...
21. I know what these two mean,
22. but no one on my f-list fits them.
23. No one fits this one, either.
24. Yikes! None of you, I hope!
25. [livejournal.com profile] kazzy24
26. [livejournal.com profile] tehking79
27. [livejournal.com profile] kazzy24
28. Uh...I don't know what that word means.
29. [livejournal.com profile] tehking79 - When is the boy staying at B&J's again? *LOL*
30. I love each and every one of you. Fathomlessly.

I was wondering when you'd update on Mikey/school and Atonement, and then I realized I'd missed the entry. Pooey.

Oh, elementary school love. Happy Birthday, Mikey, and please take lots of pictures, you :-)

And you finished the book? What did you think? Ian McEwan is just, phenomenal with words. That is all.

And... haha, I don't get the meme?

*grins* Gonna. And he says thank you. ;)

It was SO good. I want to read it another few times, let it sink in some more. The imagery was just so rich, and everything made such perfect sense! From the very beginning, I didn't like Briony - but I completely GOT her little neuroses, what she thought, what she felt, etc. - it was like that for the whole book.

And man, I just wanted to eat Robbie ALIVE...although maybe that has more to do with me picturing James McAvoy than anything...

I need to either check it out again or find my own copy so I can steep in it a little more.

And... haha, I don't get the meme?

*snerk* I didn't at first, either. It's a list of statements, and you have to plug in people on your f-list who fit each one. But per the rules, you don't get the list (and therefore can't find out what it is I plugged you in for) unless you promise to do it yourself. You're only supposed to fill in one name per item, but I obviously don't follow all the rules. And you can leave some blank if no one applies (or if, like me, you just don't like that particular statement). ;)
