psyche29GO TWINS, DIVISION CHAMPS!!!
OK, now that's out of my system - A Game of Thrones. I'm not far, only halfway through the first chapter from Ned's point of view. But thoughts...The Others! The cocky prat deserved it, I think, but what about Will? Is he dead, then? I love Jon Snow already for excluding himself from the direwolf pup distribution, and was so pleased when he heard the albino one and claimed it for his own.
Catelyn - I haven't got much more than impressions on her, but she came across as a little shallow. Is she? I like Ned, I like the kind of Papa he seems to be, explaining to Bran why he had to do it himself, why honor and duty are important.
I feel bad for Dany, and outright hate her nasty brother. What's Illyrio up to? Is the place where they are not on the map in the front of the book? I keep referring to it for every place name, but half the place names given aren't even on the map.
Going to bed to read more soon.

hmm..erm...I get the same impression from her at times too. She is a pretty controversial character actually. But, yeah she is a Lady. She has a high birth and privilege so she is typical in that respect. I don't want to give anything away, but she has a lot of character growth to come...

Yeah, there is no map for their area right now. The only map you have is Westeros/Seven Kingdoms which Dany and Viserys had to escape after their father and brother were murdered. They are in Pentos right now which is one of the Free Cities. You will see more later of the other countries around Westeros. :)

Are Illyrio and Lord Varys the same person? Is the sea narrow enough that he can easily be in both places? Or are they related and communicate easily?

I have real issue with The Others, simply because that is what the Island natives are called in LOST. I can't help but imagine these guys hanging around the northen forests of Westeros.

Yes, she kind of is at first. Later on, towards the end of the first book sees her come much more into her own.

I like Ned well enough, though he isn't one of my favourites. He is a good family man though.

No, you don't really get more detailed maps until the third book. Though, I did find this awesome one on Deviantart.
I've just finished the second Catelyn chapter, and have decided I don't like her at all. I have neither love nor patience for anyone who holds grudges against children for the sins, real or imagined, of the parents.
I do like Catelyn and she does show a lot of strength later on. However, I couldn't agree with you more about how she treats Jon. Yes, it must be hard dealing with your husband's illigitimate child, but the way she treats him is horrible. :(

Wights will attack any living creature around them with surprising strength, and with a certain amount of intelligence and memories of their previous life.
Basically, what Will encountered in the prologue.
