This and that.
Jan. 5th, 2010 12:54 pmLots of little things.
1. My brother-in-law and his wife (Steve and Jenn) are pregnant with their third child. The baby is due the end of February, but Jenn is being induced...uh, I think it's tomorrow, actually. Something about her blood pressure, and also, the placenta is deteriorating and he isn't growing like he ought to be and something's messed up with the umbilical cord. SO. I will have another nephew in a day or two, and he'll be between two and five pounds. Think good thoughts for them, pray, chant, whatever you do that he will be all right.
2. I think they're naming him Xavier. Yes, my eyebrows lifted straight into my hairline with this piece of news. But - their kid, their choice. I don't think I like it, but that's all right. As long as he's healthy, I'm happy.
3. Year-end is OVER for another year, thank God. It was fine, but I swear I spent more time on the phone in those last four days than I did the entire rest of the year COMBINED. I am so not exaggerating, either - I am not a phone person.
4. New manager (Victoria)? Yeah, she never even came down to talk to us. She's the frigging cash manager, and we thought she wasn't even here. I guess she was here and left around one, but still - bad, bad example, especially for someone new who's supposed to be in charge. I am less and less impressed with this woman. On my side, sweetly enough, are two other managers and two supervisors - they were PISSED at her. Should be interesting to see how it goes.
5. On Friday, I got a message on Facebook from my friend Debbie, someone I knew in high school and only just recently found when she finally got on FB and friended me. She said she was coming in to town (from Chicago) for New Year's, and did I want to meet up with her and a couple other girls from high school. Jumped at the chance, and on Saturday afternoon, the four of us met at Applebee's and ended up talking for THREE HOURS. It was so nice - I really need to make friends around here, and it was cool that I was invited, for one thing, and able to see them and spend time with them. I'd put up pics, but apparently I only have them saved on my laptop and an album on FB. If you've got me added there, feel free to go check them out!
6. Apparently, once the gates are opened, the flood starts. I got a comment on one of the photos from another girl from high school who mentioned she'd like to come next time we have a gathering. This particular girl actually was dating my cousin in our senior year, and has ignored me whole-heartedly ever since then. It was interesting to see her comment, especially when I've been available all the time and she could've messaged me whenever she'd wanted. I'm not reading too much into any of it, I just thought it was interesting.
7. Last night, yet another acquaintance/friend from junior high/high shool pulled me up on FB chat, and we discovered that we live less than a mile from each other right now. It was a nice chat, and I'm excited because we might meet up one of these weekends. I didn't know her super well in school, but never had a problem with her and always liked her fine. I can't wait to see her, meet her family and get to know her again.
8. How 'bout them Vikes, yes? *grins* I love the last two games they played. They lost in OT on the older one, but it was something else to watch them bring it back in the second half. And the last game, they beat the Giants, which was lovely. Adrian Peterson didn't let that ball get wrestled from him even once, I was so proud. Since the Cowboys beat whomever it was, we don't have to play the first playoff round, but we'll see how the Vikings do in the second round. I love me my Vikes, but I have no delusions about their ability to fuck it up when it's going well.
9. Christmas was so nice this year. We had my parents and my sister Karen over, and opened gifts and had awesome food. Seriously, leftover ham sandwiches are the BEST. SANDWICHES. EVER. We also had turkey and stuffing and rice with almonds, cranberry sauce, plenty of dinner rolls and pumpkin and apple pies. We STILL have a few leftovers, but they're getting to the "gonna-throw-it-out" stage.
10. New Year's Eve was lovely, too. I was able to leave work at five, and we spent the evening at Bunny and John's, making homemade pizza (mine had alfredo sauce, fresh spinach, shrimp and feta on it), opening gifts with them, and playing games till the ball dropped. We ended up spending the night there and then heading out to the Mall of America to bum around for the afternoon on New Year's Day.
11. Speaking of which, why have I never gone to Old Navy before? I got SEVEN shirts there - four were on 60% clearance and so my total came to $21.40 (no tax on clothing here, remember). THEN, after I paid, we found deep-discount racks. I got another three shirts for $5.91 - that's $1.97 EACH! Wicked cool. I am so easy to please.
12. For Christmas, hubby gave me a gift certificate for a really primo manicure and pedicure at a nail place nearby. I can hardly wait to use it, I've been wanting a pedicure for MONTHS. Definitely an awesome gift. What was the best thing you all received?
13. I actually think that's everything for now. How are all of you? Did you have a good holiday? What was the best part? The worst? What are your hopes and plans for 2010?
14. *points to icon* I just had to point out how ridiculously appropriate that icon is right now. I should be working, but I'm totally not. ... Must work on that.

Date: 2010-01-05 11:37 pm (UTC)Yay for old friends. Isn't facebook awesome for that?
How IS it possible you haven't been in Old Navy? 90% of my clothing is from there. Right now everything I have on is from there.
