Day 8 – A Moment

It was a Saturday. We'd been out all day running errands and were home for the evening, relaxing tofether in the living room after dinner. Boychild was maybe 4 years old at the time, and was playing with some trucks on the floor. Hubby was channel surfing, and I was curled up with a book.

Boychild, out of the clear blue, stands up, a truck in one hand, and looks at me and says, "Do you know why I love you, Mommy?"

Then he proceeded to list all the reasons his 4-year-old self loved me.

I don't remember what they all were, but I can remember the absolute incredulity I felt mixed with the sheer pleasure of it.

He's never done it since, nor do I expect him to do so. But I will always remember the feelings I felt at that moment; I will always remember that all on his own, with no prodding or hints from anyone else, my child wanted to express his love for me with all the words in his available vocabulary.
