psyche29OH MY GOD, I had the weirdest fucking dream EVER.
I was on an island, but it was a great, big island, with a huge lake in the middle of it surrounded on all sides by high, rocky walls. On the north side were thick forests and no humans ever went there because giants lived there, and it was said that fairies did, too. But not necessarily nice fairies. The big lake was fairly clear, but deep, and the shores were rocky and often had algae and whatnot growing there. Humans living on the south side could get to the lake easily if they wanted because there was a break in the big, high rock walls with a path going straight through, but few ever went there because it was too near to the giants and fairies for comfort.
But scientists would go there, and take a long, harrowing hike up ledges around the east wall when they'd go off on combination reconnaissance/scientific measurements/testing missions. They sometimes took student scientists along, and they'd camp in the northeastern woods, being very quiet and following strict guidelines so as not to attract unwanted attention to themselves. And I was one of the students on this particular trip. Each scientist and each student also had a big bodyguard, just in case. Mine was Dwayne Johnson.
And so the scientific party was walking around the east side of the lake to the point where we could start going up the rock face, and we could see the big boulders that the lake was lapping against, many of them moss and algae-covered, and there was a huge, car-sized piece of flat shale that seemed out of place, half in the water, and attached to the end sticking out of the water were four stone fingers, each bigger than any one of the hiking party and covered mostly in moss.
We knew this meant something was going on in the north, and I somehow came to the conclusion that fairies and giants had begun mating. So then we begin the hike up the various ledges of rock that will bring us to the top of the basin walls. Then the dream changes a little bit, and I suddenly realize Kaz is also a student scientist. Her bodyguard is some giant white guy with blond hair and crazy muscles, and the scientific mission is no longer going on. Kaz and I are in a car back in the south, but we're in the northeast part of the south, up in the hills that lead to the thin strip of forested land between the rock walls of the basin and the drop down to the ocean. The humans were pretty advanced, and there were well-maintained roads in most places in the south, and even up in the hills, there was beautiful stone rail detailing all down this road we were on, and each pillar had a figure carved onto it.
But this time, I noticed that each stone figure was actually a huge hand, and the hands were turning green and starting to move, and I knew that they were half-blood children of giants and fairies. They could take any shape they wanted and were to be feared, and both Kaz and I freaked out.
Then the dream changed and we were back in the science student dormitories, and our bodyguards were there, and they were hugging us and trying to calm us. And my bodyguard (Dwayne Johnson, remember) was suddenly kissing Kaz. I didn't care, but apparently the lady in charge of female students minded, because she came clicking down the hall in her heels and snapped out, "What the hell do you think you're doing?" And when I turned to look at her, it was actually one of the managers here at work, Lori. And Dwayne and Kaz jumped apart guiltily, because the bodyguards were adults and the students were teenagers.
Before I could find out what would happen, I was back on that road with the green hands moving and beginning to shift, but I was by myself, and there were hints of hard faces and cruel smiles forming.
And then I woke up.
