So OK, I'm just hyperventilating a little while I wait for this phone call.

So last Thursday, I was at work and sitting at Deanna's desk going through some stuff when Patti came over looking very concerned and informed me that I was to call my husband immediately.

So Dee's handing me her phone and dialing the number all in one motion, and hubby answers and tells me, "Our car is totaled, we're not going to be able to go to California next week."

He's using the same voice he uses when he's trying to trick me into believing something awful, so of course, I don't believe him. "You lie."

No, he wasn't lying.

Boychild was on spring break last week, and on Thursday after they went to let out the dog, they were heading home. Hubby was in the left turn lane and got the green turn arrow. He waited a couple seconds before beginning the turn, as per usual, and some asshole came roaring through the red light in the opposite direction and t-boned them! Pictures here.

Both Hubby and Boychild are OK, minus some stiff shoulders and a sore chest - the seatbelt definitely did its job! - but JESUS. Half a second later and Boychild would have been seriously injured, or worse, DEAD. Just-. God.

So anyway, the car is beyond repair. We haven't got another. Our credit is getting better, but is still pretty low.

We found a car on Saturday - a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis LS Ultimate - for $6379 including-tax-and-title-and-stuff-Hubby-understands. 116.5K miles on it, but it was only owned by one older couple, who buys all their cars at that dealership and had this one serviced there for the whole time they owned it, and it just - like last week - had new air shocks and four new tires put on it. We test drove it and it didn't give a rattle or anything; it drives like it's only got 30K on it.

So we put in an app at the dealership, and I'm currently waiting to hear back from my own credit union to see what they might be able to offer us, if anything. Cross your fingers, say prayers, dance naked in your backyard, whatever - I accept it all, please think good thoughts for us.

This totally, of course, kicks us in the shins and ruins our plans for California. We were supposed to be leaving early Wednesday morning this week. We're incredibly bummed. I know shit happens, but this year it keeps happening to us. One thing wasn't enough, it just has to keep revisiting.

OK, done complaining - I know other people in the world (Japan, anyone? Libya? Yemen?) have it so much worse than we do right now. But please - if you have a moment to send good thoughts, please do so.

I feel like a never-ending story of tragedy - I really have to post about positive things once in a while. I'll work on it. :)

I hope the other guy's insurance gives you LOTS AND LOTS of money to make up for this.

I will think good thoughts for you in the meanwhile for that car. And we can understand 2011 happening to is happening to us too in a variety of forms. *sympathetic hugs*
